When you start your car the check engine light should briefly come on and then turn off for the rest of your drive. A check engine light that stays on or comes on while driving indicates there’s a problem with the emission system. If your vehicle has failed an emissions test, chances are the problem can be identified by a code stored in the computer when your check engine light came on.
DON’T ignore your check engine light – there’s a problem and it’s not going to go away by itself.
If you’re driving when the check engine light comes on, find a safe place to pull over and stop. Turn the car off for a couple of minutes, then start the car back up. If you are lucky, the light will come on then go off. If so, give your local auto repair center a call. They may ask you to bring the car by so they can read the problem code stored in the computer. If you start the car and the light stays on, get your car to your local repair shop ASAP. For the best service, take your car to a certified technician at your local auto repair center in Denver.
